KAT V was raised in Latvia from a young age to follow the traditional path of a classical musician, but, as genre-bending violinist in the United States, her approach to music has become far from conventional. KAT V’s debut EP, Opus One, available now on Itunes, Amazon and Spotify impressively defines her own sound—a wide-ranging pastiche of genres that escapes the repetitive formulas of dance music while embracing electronic and hip-hop sounds far removed from her classical roots. The result is music that’s unpredictable and distinctly modern, yet ultimately still grounded in the traditional sound of the violin. The unique sonic qualities of her violin often surprise audiences and connect on a deeply emotional level, redefining what the instrument has accomplished for hundreds of years. On Opus One, KAT updates the instrument’s sound for an audience more familiar with bass drops than Beethoven, and the results are electrifying. But Opus One is just the beginning: KAT’s continuing to push her sound forward and try new experiments based around live improvisation. Her follow up solo project will be released in Spring 2015.
KAT joined the DJ movement and since has been entertaining audiences with dynamic sets fusing a blend of favorites and best new indie artist works. Her sets are a one of a kind experience especially when KAT elevates the performance with the electric violin solo, it is a feast for the senses.
